fog in the park

This is my very first painting, ever.

This past Friday night ,I went to a TOMA girls night out at Uptown Art in Denville, and this is the picture we painted. I painted this one, but every one painted the same picture. I have to say it is a really fun night out, you can go on your own, with one or two friends or a large group like we did. You can bring snacks and drinks, yes the grown up type drinks are welcome, and they provide everything you need to paint . They supply the canvas the paint, brushes, and give you step by step instructions,so by the end of the evening, you have a finished picture to take home with you. I am pretty impressed with the final product everyone was able to produce. It was amazing to see how different everyone’s paintings cam out. We all got the same paint, brushes and instructions, but every picture was unique and beautiful in it’s own way.

We all had a good time, painting, eating, and drinking. The atmosphere was really laid back and they make the whole experience relaxing and fun. The instructor was up beat and very easy to follow, something I think is important when you want to keep things light and enjoyable. There were several built in breaks so you get time for munchies and the all important refill. I really love how easy they made it to follow along. Everyone left with a picture that looked pretty darn good, and like I said, I have never painted anything before and I felt good about what my painting looked like.

It’s definitely something I would suggest to someone, and I want to go and do it again. I think it is a wonderful gift idea for those who might be hard to shop for , a fun girls night out, birthday party, or mothers day gift.  I would definitely like to take my kids, I think they would enjoy it, and actually I think my husband would like it as well. It ‘t not the same old happy hour or night at the bar. It provides a nice change of pace for a night out with friends. All and all it was a great new experience.

This year it is one of my goals to go out an do and try new things, and this fell right into that category. I’m not 100% sure what other new fun things I will be trying but I have a few ideas in mind and I will post when I do them. Life is short so get out there and do what you want to do, go where your want to go, and live the life you want to live, because no one else can do it for you.

It’s a new week , take advantage of it and make things happen.

poolvacation

Free time, family time, fun time, food, and a few hours of time alone with my husband, now that’s a nice long weekend. Saturday afternoon we packed up the kids and the car a headed done the shore to my aunt and uncles house in Point Pleasant. They had a packed house as per usual; I think there were about 11 of us staying over this weekend plus 5 more for a party on Sunday. I can never say thank you enough they let everyone stay for parties and at different points all throughout the summer.

So we get there Saturday and just hang out and relax, the weather was not on our side so we inside, but we had a nice big dinner and everyone hung out and enjoyed the company. Sunday morning was gorgeous, and my husband and I we up early so we headed to the beach before it opened for a walk by the ocean, we did get our feet a little wet, and on the boardwalk while everything was still calm and quiet.  We were there for about an hour we enjoyed our time alone got in a nice walk and got out just as everything was starting to open and people starting flocking to the beach. The rest of the morning and the afternoon were spent outside by the pool, my kids and at least half of my family went in the pool, I dipped my feet in and that was it for me. I was a beautiful day, we ate we drank we played games talked laughed and of course listened to some good music. Then I decided to do something crazy I got my husband to drive me my uncle, my two kids and my two cousins over to the boardwalk for a few hours. To say it was packed would be an understatement there were people everywhere. I do think however that we were in the least crowed area, we were over by the bigger rides and over there you could actually walk from one ride to another with a bit of personal space, that was not the case anywhere else, except maybe on the beach. The lines were not bad the kids were good and they really had a good time so for me it was worth it. It did take a bit of doing to get out of there and my poor husband spent about ½ an hour getting to us, it’s usually a 10 min ride. We took a different way out of there because we couldn’t turn around but we made it back to the house just fine.

Sunday we woke up early again for another quiet walk on the beach before waking the kids and packing up to go home, it was another beautiful day and I did not want to leave. We did get lucky and have a quick ride home, love that. We spent the day at home in the yard and did a bit of grilling in the afternoon. It was suck a wonderful weekend I am looking forward to a fun summer with lots of trips to the shore.

Fall Food
Well the weather is changing and it’s making me crave a good hot meal again. I always eat lighter when it’s warm, but now it’s time for some heaver, starchier foods. I do try my best to eat healthy and nutritious foods, so here is what I came up with last night. It’s simple, healthy, easy and fast.
Gluten free Pasta with Fresh Veggies
1 lb pasta whatever you like (I used gluten free linguine)
1 cup baby spinach
¼ cup broccoli
¼ cup cauliflower
½ cup zucchini
Cook pasta according to box directions
With 5 min remaining throw in all the veggies except the spinach
When pasta is cooked remove from heat and throw in the spinach and stir
Drain and rinse with cold water
Top with your favorite sauce or sautéed diced tomatoes
• As an alternative you can sauté all the vegetables with diced tomatoes and use that to top your pasta.
• Either way it still quick easy an delicious.

goodbyesummer

I got my wish, a warm weekend, the last summer weekend, and it stayed warm enough to go swimming.
Even with the showers here and there we managed to stay outside most of the day.
Swimming, pool volleyball, corn hole, and just straight up hanging out and relaxing .
Plus the food, drinks and good music.
It sure is the perfect note,to end the summer on.
I get today off then back to work, kids go back to school next week, and all the fun of fall will begin.
So goodbye to summer and hello to football, apples, pumpkins and Halloween.
Enjoy the last of summer today hope you made good memories, and here’s looking forward to all that fall has to offer.

Tired of the same old burgers and dogs on the grill? Try something new at your next BBQ. Try grilling some fresh fruits and veggies.
Squash, onions, asparagus, pineapple, peaches, or eggplant

Coat with a little bit of oil and sprinkle your favorite seasoning on foil or right on the grill.
