myblackbelt

Well after 5 years of hard work I finally got my Black Belt. I don’t think I will ever find the words to describe what it was like taking that test,or how truly amazed I am that I did everything required of me. The test took place over the course of three consecutive days,Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I can’t talk much about what I had to do because it is meant to be a surprise and a challenge for each person testing.I can tell you it was not easy, and a points I was not sure where to find the strength to keep going, I just refused to give up , so somehow the strength was there. There were a few times I thought I might just fall over but thankfully I did not. Each day presented it’s own challenges both physically and mentally, It was difficult at times to stay calm and keep a clear head with all the adrenaline pumping through my system. I did get worked up a few times, and I had to collect my self, and calm down to move on, I was very proud of myself fore having that ability is such a stressful situation, since it’s something I have always struggled with.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has been there for me through all of this, Everyone who watched the kids to get to class , helped me stay motivated and focused on my goal. Thank you to Master Jo and all the staff at TOMA fo their dedication and support. My family for always being there to help. I couldn’t have done this with out you.

I put a lot of hard work and dedication into achieving my goal, I could have given up many times but I didn’t. If you have something you want, you can have it ,as long as you work hard and don’t give up. It is not always easy to get the things we want, and sometimes It can seem like we will never achieve them, one thing I know for sure is ,you never achieve anything by giving up.We all deserve the things in life that make us happy, you simply have to allow yourself the opportunity to go after what you want, you deserve it, we all do. We only get one life, go after the things you want, while you can.

black belt

I am completely and utterly preoccupied with my upcoming Black Belt test. I have been spending most of my free time preparing in one way or another. Aside from all the physical prep I need to do i also have to write an essay about what my training means to me,design a poster about my journey to black belt ,and write a speech . I need to have all of this completed by this Friday. I think I have things pretty well in hand ,the poster is done and I just need to reread my essay and make a few changes. The speech well that’s another story, I have to keep that simple because I cant use any written aides or materials so I think I may keep it in line with my speech so I can remember what I want to say. Aside from that I just need to practice, practice, practice.

I have been taking extra good care of myself the past few weeks, since I am “in training” so clean eating, no  alcohol  and lots of water.I have been making smoothies everyday with my Nutribullit loaded with fresh fruit greens and coconut water. I have been eating steamed broccoli with lunch everyday and lots of salads. I have been getting to classes every chance I get, but the snow has cause me a few cancellations, so I have been training and working out on my own as much as possible. All of this on top of my regular working and running around is keeping me quit busy, so I a also making sure I get myself to bed at a decent time so I get enough rest.

I think I just going to keep it short and sweet this week because my mind is obviously somewhere else at the moment. So hope everyone has a wonderful week and check back in every day for Tip of the Day.

wildwood

I hope all the moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I was lucky to be able to spend a beautiful warm sunny day with my family. We were in Wildwood NJ for my daughter’s gymnastics competition on Saturday, so we were able to stay and enjoy the boardwalk for a little while on Sunday. I love being near the ocean, something about it seems to make me feel relaxed and at ease. We all enjoyed the weekend together.

What I am really excited about for me is on Friday night I completed my first Leadership Boot Camp.  We need to complete two before we can qualify to test for our Black Belt. So I left work early Friday and headed to Elite TOMA for 4 ½ hours of training, oh yes that’s rite 4 ½ hours. Obviously I made it through because here I am writing about, a little tired and achy maybe but all good none the less. We did conditioning exercises, combinations, forms, weapons training and some light shadow sparing. It was alot to take in for one night but I feel I got quite a bit out of it. I also learned I can push myself a lot more than I thought. I have a lot more hard work and training ahead of me before I reach my goal, and I am looking forward to pushing myself further and further. It’s amazing what we can do when we give ourselves permission.

This past Friday I completed my Brown 1 belt and moved up to Camo. This is my last belt before I become an assistant Black Belt, at which point I go back and re learn everything from white all the way back up to camo to test for my Black Belt. It’s a good possibility that I could be doing just that in about a year. Wow it’s a lot to think about so for now I focus on the challenge at hand, my current belt and curriculum. I look forward to the challenges that come with each new belt; the hard work, the sweat, and all the practice it takes to get to my best. Every belt comes with more challenging moves requires more concentration, focus and determination. In the beginning I am just trying to remember what comes next, it was so difficult, I had a tough time thinking I would ever be able to remember all the complex moves of the more advanced belts, let alone perform them correctly.
I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and I am excited to continue learning. So here I go on to the next level, and soon beyond. One step at a time, I’ll continue on this journey, to Black Belt and beyond, At Elite TOMA with Master Jo and his excellent staff.
